A digital revolution for pension funds – from an idea to the go-live in six months

Challenge: using digital technology to close the gap between policyholders and traditional pension funds.

Initial situation

The CEO presented us with his idea of offering pension fund policyholders transparency and self-service in order to bridge the significant gap between the fund and its policyholders.

Solution

Acrea worked with its partners to implement the CEO’s vision in practical steps. The core of the concept was the market launch of a mobile app for policyholders and a self-service portal for their employers.

Result

Within six months, a minimum viable product (MVP) was launched on the market in the form of an iOS app. Since then, clients have been able to digitally submit – and, where possible, digitally complete – business cases in an extremely efficient manner.

Future prospects for a monolithic core banking system

Challenge: making a monolithic core banking system modular and scalable in order to equip it for the future.

Initial situation

Today, smart modularity is a vital component of a modern core banking system. But how can you split up a monolith in a logical way, while at the same time ensuring that the architecture is technologically equipped for the future and also bringing momentum into the organization?

Solution

Starting with the product vision, our team created an IT architecture vision that took shortcomings and special requirements into account. Moreover, Acrea helped the client with communication, organizational restructuring and establishing a technological basis for the implementation of the architectural vision.

Result

The financial service provider now has a reliable, easy-to-understand architecture roadmap and, thanks to its innovative new structure, has become more attractive in the “war for talent.”

From opportunistic APIs to an open banking strategy

Challenge: effective API positioning for open banking services and preparation for implementation.

Initial situation

The management of a bank wants to know which prerequisites it needs to meet and how to best position itself to ensure that it is competitive in the field of open banking.

Solution

We defined the API capabilities required by the bank on all levels, starting with the strategy level and going all the way to the IT platform for API. These capabilities were consistently integrated into the financial institution’s target operating model.

Result

The client understands the required API capabilities, was able to make the corresponding decisions in terms of resources based on the objectives we determined, and was able to position itself for the future of open banking.

Technical due diligence for a large e-commerce platform

Challenge: a media company wants to carry out a CHF 240 million acquisition on schedule and with due diligence.

Initial situation

A large e-commerce platform is being put up for sale by its owner. A leading Swiss media company is one of the interested buyers. However, the M&A team lacks the necessary technical know-how.

Solution

Within two weeks, Acrea created a first draft report on the basis of analyses and interviews at three locations. Our technical due diligence provided the client with a clear picture of the current state of the software platform and its operation. We were able to provide the client with these results in just one month.

Result

The identified risks and scenario recommendations from Acrea played a major role in ensuring that the purchase and integration of the e-commerce platform could be concluded successfully.

Nezasa – from business concept to the first online booking in just 12 months

Challenge: we wanted to found a start-up that made it easy to book individual trips.

The innovation

The service should make it easy for clients to book more complex individual trips. Nezasa provides the corresponding B2B software solution, guaranteeing a seamless transition from travel agency to online booking.

Result

The sales platform nezasa.com went live just 10 months after the idea was born. The first booking was made shortly after the platform launched. The company now has more than 60 employees in Zurich and Lisbon (as of October 2019).

Self-service strategy and business case for an insurance group

Challenge: making a leading insurance company’s self-service offers competitive.

Initial situation

New digital offers are storming the insurance market. That is why a leading Swiss insurance provider wants to launch a digital self-service solution for its clients. The management turned to Acrea for help with this project.

Solution

We determined the financial, organizational and technical feasibility of digital self-service for clients within the organization. Based on these findings, Acrea was able to create an effective strategy for the group.

Result

The insurance group has a precise, broad-based and cross-departmental view of digital client self-service. Thanks to the Acrea plan for immediate implementation of a minimum viable product (MVP), the company can now offer its clients self-service on its existing digital channel.

Platform for external asset managers – MVP concept in three months

Challenge: a new digital platform for external asset managers needs to efficiently cover all existing and future requirements, including regulations.

Initial situation

Efficiency is key for external asset managers; however, at the same time, the amount of regulatory paperwork required continues to increase. The Head of the External Asset Management Department of a private bank wants to launch a platform to tackle this issue.

Solution

Acrea demonstrated how these requirements can be met using digital technologies. We defined how the required platform functionality and the corresponding solution modules should look. The evaluation of qualified partners who would be suitable for implementing this vision was completed in six months.

Result

After an extremely rapid project phase of just three months, the client received the definition of a minimum viable product (MVP), a business case and a suitable partner for implementation.
